Local Organizations, 'Gas Me Up' Event

On Wednesday, March 30, cars lined up at Arco, Chula Vista, to fill their tanks. With the recent gas prices reaching a record high, several local organizations have stepped up for another free gas giveaway.

According to a report on KUSI News, Good Morning San Diego, the “Gas Me Up” event highlights the surging gas prices and the need to help working-class families. More than 500 working–class and low–income families signed up for that day’s “Gas Me Up” event.

KUSI’s Jenny Milkowski went to the venue and talked to Shane Harris and other volunteers helping provide for families in need.

As heard from the interview, Shane Harris and the organization he founded collaborated with several other local organizations in the “Gas Me Up” event. According to Shane Harris, they are ready to go that morning and serve the people in need in the county and the region.

Moreover, he emphasized that the present times are dark and challenging times. Consequently, everyone must do everything to bind as a community and meet the moment joyfully and excitingly.

The “Gas Me Up “provided gas and food for people pre-registered for the event, as to how Jenny Milkowski said it – gas on the pump and food on the trunk.

Last Wednesday was not the first time this event happened. On March 14, it had its giving away event of gas and food to pre-registered families in need at Arco in Allied Gardens. The funds for this event were donated by the People’s Association of Justice Advocates.

This organization collaborated with the County of San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce, the Heartland Coalition, San Diego-based attorney King Aminpour, Attisha Enterprises Inc., the Chaldean Coalition, and some anonymous donors to provide funds for the “Gas Me Up “event.
