The Soul Church urges members to join the Unexpected 20’s Campaign by placing $20 in envelopes to give to those in crisis in the restaurant and hospitality industry throughout May.

The church’s website noted that members could hand out an unexpected $20 to someone in their favorite restaurant or leave it in their hotel room for the room attendant. They added that they could also give the Unexpected 20 to the manager to give to the perfect recipient. They also said it is unnecessary to meet the person unless they approach them.

Call to Love, People

“In the City for the City,” the church’s mission statement, as posted on its website.

The church believes that they have the call to love the individuals in their city for Jesus. They emphasized that they are a community dedicated to Jesus and the city. They think that their church is not only limited to four walls, but it is those who meet together.

Besides, the place is where they could worship and learn and mingle with each other after they have the service for their community. They noted that their short mission statement is more than a belief. It is a celebration of new life from God that they cherish and live. The church emphasized that their faith defines them as they are inspired by it.

Big Table

The church holds Unexpected 20 as part of their support for the Big Table. This organization cares for restaurants and hospitality workers before decreasing their numbers, as noted on the Big Table website

According to them, the restaurant and hospitality industry is the biggest in the country and is increasing faster. But this industry is also one of the most vulnerable demographics. They added that just like single parents, teenager victims, and immigrants, people in the said industry are also trying to change their lives.

The organization revealed another essential point: the said industry has the most significant alcohol and drug addiction rates among individuals. They noted many divorce cases and broken relationships in this industry. Most workers are also in the redline stress levels, have unstable jobs, and have almost no safety net. However, they added that people might see them smiling because they work in the hospitality industry.

Big Table Cares

The first step for the said organization to help is that they work on a referral system. The organization creates a network of managers, owners, and employees in the industry. Then when these people see someone in need, they give a personal referral.

Their next step is to respond directly and personally. The group aims to deal with the immediate crisis need as fast as possible. The website indicated that they aim to keep a family or individual from falling off the ledge.

Moreover, the group collaborated with the best resource providers in their neighborhood. They partner with doctors, dentists, therapists, auto mechanics, and lawyers.

Lastly, when they see some changes in the people in crisis, they could rearrange from triage care to investigating in a long time for coaching and mentoring. They added that they continue to be with them once the person recovers by giving them responsibility and encouragement.
