The Ukrainian community in the U.S. made their voices heard against the Russian invasion. St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church joins the entire Ukrainian population in condemning the war.
Churches, St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Gather for Homeland
On its Facebook page, St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church encouraged its people to join their homeland's rally and prayer events.
A recent post, dated February 25, provided details regarding the San Diego events to support Ukraine Thursday and Friday at 5 p.m.
According to the announcement, Ukrainians are invited to join a prayer service and Panakhyda at the future Ukrainian Catholic parish in Santee. St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church asked everyone to bring signs, flags, wear Ukrainian shirts, and anything that symbolizes Ukraine.
The announcement shared on Facebook also shared the details on Candlelight Vigil at the House of Ukraine, Balboa Park. According to St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the media will be present at the event.
The prayer service and candlelight vigil are great opportunities to express their support for Ukraine with a non – Ukrainian audience. It also advised attendees that things said and done would be caught on camera.
Leaders of the Church also showed support for their homeland through prayers and words of encouragement. St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church shared such videos and photos on its Facebook.
As shared on its Facebook, Divine Liturgy happens on Sundays at 10 a.m. The church serves the Ukrainian Orthodox community of San Diego County.

As reported on ABC 10 News, more than a hundred people showed up for a candlelight vigil at House of Ukraine, Balboa Park. The event took place on February 25, Friday.
The attendees prayed for their homeland and the lives lost during the invasion. According to the report, some who joined the candlelight vigil have family members still in Ukraine as the war happens.
Update, Russian Invasion on Ukraine St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church
As stated on Yahoo News, the invasion in Ukraine is heading towards its fifth day of fighting. As reported by the Associated Press, Russian troops entered Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, on Sunday. This video was posted on Ukrainian media, and social networks captured Russian vehicles moving across the city and a vehicle burning on the street.
Meanwhile, the New Cold War website reported that hostilities began in Ukraine last February 24. Martial law has been declared as military action happens in the northern, eastern, and southern regions. According to the New York Times, civilians joined the country's outgunned military in its desperate bid to stop Russia's offensive, winning increased support from other countries.
The New York Times also reported that the two countries agreed to sit down for talks "without preconditions." However, hopes were not high for a peaceful resolution regarding their conflict.
Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine's president, agreed to send a party to meet with the Russian officials near the border with Belarus. Nonetheless, the president emphasized that he expected little to come of it.
It was also reported that Putin puts Russia's nuclear forces on alert as the war against Ukraine continues.
