History of St. Joseph's Table

According to the Italian Tribune, March 19 is the Feast of St. Joseph. It is celebrated by Catholics worldwide. In Sicily, Italy, this feast is a day of deep devotion and homage to the saint. Additionally, the feast is rich in traditions and joyful moments.

St. Joseph's Table Celebration involves charity works, which is how the Tavola di San Giuseppe started. This tradition came about during the Middle Ages in Sicily, when severe drought plagued the island.

As a result, a widespread famine occurred. The local farmers and fisherfolks prayed to San Giuseppe, who answered their prayers. According to the Italian Tribune, the drought ended with lush rainfall.

Fertile crops became abundant throughout the island. The people rejoiced with a lavish feast in honor of St. Joseph. The locals show their gratitude through a table with a special assortment of food they harvested. This table later became popular as La Tavola di San Giuseppe.
