As part of Good Neighbor Day, the Church at RB encouraged its members to participate in their July Tag Drive: Personal Hygiene from July 10 to July 31.

The church posted on their announcement that they are focused on their programs around helping those in need of personal hygiene items in their immediate neighborhood. They added that they are gathering personal hygiene items for men and women around San Diego who are dealing with transition and homelessness.

Besides, the church mentioned that they are working with many organizations.  They would use the donated items to make care kits of all sorts at Good Neighbor Day on July 23. Members could drop by their lobby to grab a tag and buy an item. They could bring it back to them, as posted on their website.

Being a Good Neighbor by Following Jesus

In the first episode of the church’s new online series, “I can be a Good Neighbor by following Jesus,” Keegan Moss visits Hancock Elementary School to learn more about children who need shoes.

In the video posted on the church’s Facebook page, Moss from the church’s children's ministry interviewed Kristen MacMaster, the school’s guidance counselor. After getting back from online learning, she said that most of their kids wear worn-out clothes and their shoes have holes.

MacMaster thought that maybe I could ask the church to help to solve that problem. She added that they are so happy whenever the kids come in and get new shoes. Children were light up and wanted to wear their new shoes right away.

“Some of the shoes I see are really torn out, so it makes me so happy to put a new pair of shoes on them,” MacMaster stated in her interview.

Creating After School Programs

In the same video, MacMaster said another problem she saw is that the children do not have anything to do after school besides playing on their computers and video games. She asked the church to help her create after-school programs at the school.

The church helped her create the running club so kids would have something to do after school. She said they have Kids Run the World Club, wherein they meet every Tuesday and host a running club for the children around campus.

MacMaster revealed that their students are having so much fun and enriching new skills. Besides, one of the kids who received a new pair of shoes and joined the said club is staying out of trouble and making new friends.

She, then, advised Moss not to be afraid to ask adults around her how she could help. Moss emphasized that Jesus was a kid. He spent time in the temple learning from adults.

They can also learn a lot from the people around her. Jesus loves those people who are left out sick and hurting. Moss mentioned that she could also be like Him each day by being a good neighbor in her community.

On the said Facebook post, the church challenged its congregation that they are too young to begin being a good neighbor.
