The Trinity Church has hosted The Community Food Connection for years. The organization needs volunteers. Last March 22, The Community Food Connection provided details about the need for people to serve.
Call for Volunteers, The Community Food Connection
For several years, Trinity Church has served as home to The Community Food Connection. Bob Maddux, Board Member of the organization and founding pastor of Trinity Church, talked to KUSI and shared the immediate need for volunteers.
According to the interview in KUSI Good Evening San Diego, The Community Food Connection is searching for volunteer drivers. The job entails going to designated grocery stores, picking up food, then bringing it back to the pantry for distribution.
The pastor shared that it could be a once–a–week commitment or more.
Pastor Bob stated that the number of people needing their assistance increased due to COVID and other factors.
As a result, they need more volunteers. According to Pastor Bob, there are many ways to help The Community Food Connection. Aside from driving to grocery stores, volunteers can help prepare food or help distribute the food.
According to the pastor, hundreds of cars visit the pantry three times a week – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Community Food Connection also partners with the San Diego Food Bank. Pastor Bob also shared that other non–profit organizations provide food for the pantry.
“Bringing Food to Communities, One Family at a Time.”
As stated on its website, The Community Food Connection is a non–profit group dedicated to helping individuals and families facing food insecurity. Through its volunteers and partnership with various organizations, The Community Food Connection strives to improve the lives of everyone in need of food within the different communities it serves.
The pantry serves over 1,000 families a week. It distributes fresh produce, frozen food, canned goods, and dry goods. The Community Food Connection is open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Those who need food may visit The Community Food Connection at 14047 Twin Peaks Road, Building C, Poway.
