The Metropolitan Community Church will hold a memorial slide montage to continue the church’s tradition for All Saints Day on Sunday, Oct. 30.
The church’s newsletter announced that the event is for giving honor to all the saints and loved ones who have died. They added that it is an opportunity for refreshment because they know how difficult it is to manage montage.
The Metropolitan Community Church asked those members who want to have their loved ones included from last year and want to continue they could just send an email to the church’s office. They explained that they should put their name and add an image of their loved one in a jpeg format.
History of All Saints Day
According to the Basilica website, the celebration of All Saints Day began in May 609. They noted that Pope Boniface IV offered the Pantheon in Rome to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Besides, the website said that Pope Gregory III moved the date to Nov. 01, when he dedicated a chapel at the Vatican to give the respect of all the saints. Pope Gregory IV applied this festivity of all saints to the universal church, as further explained on the website.
Traditions at All Saints Day
The same website revealed that holding a mass for the Solemnity of All Saints is one great tradition and practice. They said that attending mass is a Holy Day Obligation of parishioners.
They noted that whenever people go to Mass, they can show that they remember the saints in a particular way in the Eucharist. As further explained, they also include reading and learning about the saints.
The parishioners could pray to the saints, notably one’s Confirmation Saint, and ask them for their intercession, as mentioned on the website. The website also posted that during the All Saints celebration, they are hosting school Masses when students would wear as saints for the day.
Moreover, the website noted that during the All Saints Day celebration, it is an excellent opportunity to watch movies about saints. Some films they mentioned are classic movies such as A Man for All Seasons, Becket, and The Song of Bernadette.
Scriptures related to All Saints Day
The Basilica website explained that the gospel for the All Saints is rooted in the Sermon of the Mount. They said the Beatitudes is religious learning that discusses the Basic Attitudes of Christ.
As further explained, the passage is appropriate for All Saints because they encounter joy amidst their sorrow or suffering. They emphasized that Jesus said that blessed are those suffering, such as those who are poor, grieving, and persecuted.
The website stressed that when people strive to follow Christ’s attitudes, they could be part of building God’s Kingdom on earth. They added that during All Saints Day, parishioners pray uniquely to the saints so they can continue to guide them in their journey.
They quoted St. Teresa of Calcutta’s statement, "holiness is not the luxury of a few people, but a simple duty for you and me.”
