The Rev. Vanessa Glass grew up in the Sacramento Valley and Sierra Nevada Foothills. After graduating from high school, Vanessa spent a year in Finland as a Rotary Exchange Student. She returned to California and earned a degree in Organizational Communication from California State University Sacramento and a Masters of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific.
A lifelong Episcopalian, Vanessa was ordained at Grace Cathedral on the thirtieth anniversary of her baptism in 2001. Since then, she has served parishes in San Francisco and Marin. Prior to her call as rector of St. Francis in August 2011, Vanessa served as the Senior Associate Pastor at Grace Cathedral.
Vanessa is a deputy to General Convention and co-chairs the Diocese of California’s deputation to General Convention. She is a member of the Standing Commission on the Structure of the Church. In the diocese, she serves as a Mutual Ministry Review Facilitator, the Vice-President of the Marin Deanery, and the former convener and co-founder of the Women’s Clericus. Since the fall of 2011 Vanessa has been a CREDO faculty member.
In 2010 Vanessa was awarded a Sabbatical Grant for Pastoral Leaders from the Louisville Institute. During her sabbatical, she traveled to France to study the labyrinth in Chartres and returned to Finland to visit friends and her former host family.
Vanessa is married to Michael Glass, chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin and a partner at Ragghianti Freitas, LLP. They have two daughters who enjoy tending their flock of backyard chickens.
