Dove Awardee Yancy will hold a special Friday concert for moms with preschool-age children at First Baptist Dallas. The concert is the main event in this month's FIRST Friday of First Baptist, a monthly fellowship of mothers, their preschool-age children.

FIRST Friday is a ministry of FBD that aims to help mothers in bringing up children. The concert to be held on December 3, 10 am at Lovvorn Hall, First Baptist Dallas is free, and everyone is encouraged to invite moms and kids whom they think might benefit from the event.

The Purpose

FBD, recognizing that the journey of motherhood is not easy, but is also a blessing, is working side-by-side with families to help mothers fulfill their God-given mandate to "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6).

Every first Friday of the month, the church invites speakers to talk about topics that would help mothers in their journey; and to maximize the time of fellowship, mothers and their kids will have refreshments and a mommy-and-me project.

The Guest

Songwriter and singer Yancy is this FIRST Friday's guest. Winning her first GMA Dove at the 52nd Annual GMA Dove Awards is one of the highlights of her 24-year career.

She explains this, saying, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. This was my first nomination and first win. It's gonna take me a while to gather my thoughts to say all the things I want and need to say. I honestly am in shock and still am processing. Long story short: a childhood dream came true. I've been making music for 24 years professionally. This project was a multi-year journey and God has blown me away with what He did with my 'YES.'"

"Children's Album of the Year" Award was for Yancy's "Ready Set Go."

According to JubilleeCast, Yancy was inspired to write "Ready Set God" after visiting the Ark Encounter in Kentucky. Having seen the magnificence of the ark of Noah, obedience was what first entered Yancy's mind.

The Journey of Motherhood

Beverly D. Flaxington, author of 30 Days to Understanding Other People, writing for Psychology Today, says, "When you first become a mother, if you are given the gift of motherhood, to begin with, you aren't prepared for the sheer volume of what you are supposed to know and be able to deal with adeptly. Here is this tiny life in your hands. There is nothing she (or he) can do without your help. It is daunting."

Cognizant of this, First Baptist Dallas is doing everything it can to provide the help it can give to those on this journey. Because God has entrusted mothers in nurturing the life of young individuals, the church should also be ready to provide them with the encouragement they need.

This is what the concert is all about, and Yancy's songs will definitely be a great encouragement to those attending.
