Focusing on helping individuals and their families deal with mental health issues, the Well Community is a haven of recovery from mental illness. By this, they mean, according to their philosophy, “[seeking] to help those with mental illness to regain their lives and to help them live in a “normal state.”

A Community for the Helpless

Matthew 9:35-36 is the main idea behind The Well Community’s mission. The verses say, “Jesus went through all the towns and villages… healing every disease and sickness.  When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd,” guide every Community staff in their daily ministry helping those struggling with their mental health.

A Special Event

Towards the advancement of their cause, the community will hold on December 4, from 7 to 11 p.m., a special event. Dubbed “Starry Night, Holiday Night,” this activity to be held at the Place at Tyler is a celebration of Christ’s birth with lively music.

One of the highlights of the event is the auction to be led by Dean McCurry. Up for grabs are goods that are certain to catch one’s fancy or imagination. With a silent auction to be made available, everyone, claims the community, will definitely enjoy an evening of charity.

The Well Community, during this event, will also report about their accomplishments and how the gifts of their partners were used through the pandemic.

Proceeds to this event will benefit the community and the individuals and families they are ministering to. “Starry Night, Holiday Night,” being their biggest fundraising event of the year, will help them meet the needs of the organization’s programs that are crucial to the support and services they offer their patients.

Further, the success of this event will ensure that the door of their Community Life Center remains open for those seeking professional help to deal with mental illness.

Mental Health Crisis

In their website, using the data collected by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), The Wells Community states that one in five American adults, or around 51.5 million people, experience mental illness in a given year. One in every  20 individuals, estimated at 13.1 million Americans, has schizophrenia, major depression, or bipolar disorder.

Texas, however, is the 50th among the states for mental health care access. This means that Texans have to wait long and hard before their needs can be attended to by a mental health professional.

What the Organization Offers

To help address these problems, The Well Community believes that Christ’s mission is to offer a fullness of life to everyone. As such, they endeavor to make their community as accommodating as possible to help everyone feel at home.

In addition, transformation and recovery are expected, and members of the community work hand in hand to make these possible for the mentally ill.

Lastly, although it is interdenominational, as a Christian community, instilling faith in God is a vital component of a person’s total recovery.
