Special Entertainment Events' "Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition" is set to show at Cherry Creek Mall in Denver on Nov. 18 to Jan. 15, 2023.

According to Observer-Reporter, "Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel" is one of several tours that travel the nation, bringing famous artwork and artists to a larger audience in immersive, floor-to-ceiling forms.

As per the senior producer of SEE, Eric Leong, the management wants to spread the art to as many individuals as possible to build an appreciation for it.

With this, Leong stated that malls are their ideal venue for the show.

He stated that malls are attractive to them because they already have the necessary infrastructure and ample parking.

Their owners are reportedly keen to discover fresh attractions that may attract customers, especially in those hard-to-fill spots.

Leong claimed that before COVID, malls had a lot of vacant spaces; after it, they had even more.

They are thus seeking products like theirs since they are a client who can stay for a few months and draw customers to the mall.

Meanwhile, it is beneficial for the SEE organizers as they get a large space required for the exhibition at reasonable rent.

The Exhibition

According to the show's website, the exhibition presents the wonder of one of humankind's greatest artistic accomplishments.

All that while enabling its viewers to see this work up-close, life-sized, and in a way that has never been seen before, as claimed.

The exhibition idea came to fruition when Martin Biallas, CEO of SEE, had a disappointing experience when he visited the Vatican City to see the Sistine Chapel.

Los Angeles-based SEE Global Entertainment CEO reportedly found the entire experience underwhelming among the jostling, craning of necks, and clock-watching.

With this, they decided to meticulously and artistically recreate the ceiling paintings from the Sistine Chapel using authorized high-definition images.

Visitors can now interact with the artwork by viewing every detail, every brushstroke, and every hue of the artist's 34 frescoes.

These 34 reproductions include "The Creation of Adam" and "The Last Judgement."

This is made possible by a revolutionary printing technology that mimics the appearance and feel of the original paintings.

For a more in-depth experience, visitors can also rent audio guides that offer historical and artistic commentary.

Artist Michelangelo

According to legend, Michelangelo himself was hesitant to take on the assignment.

When he was granted the Sistine Chapel project, Michelangelo wanted to beg out, saying he was already too busy.

Moreover, he always saw himself more as a sculptor and came to Rome in 1505 with a plan to work on the tomb of Pope Julius II.

Eventually, he was persuaded to take on the project.

As an artist, he studied the Old Testament for inspiration. Afterward, the ceiling frescoes were finally displayed in 1512.

About 20 years later, Pope Paul III requested a remodel of the altar wall in the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo answered by producing "The Last Judgment," in which Jesus Christ divides people into the saved and the condemned.

Sistine Chapel shows by SEE are currently taking place concurrently in Bordeaux, El Paso, Oklahoma City, and Pittsburgh.

Advance and day-of tickets are available for "Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel." Those who wish to purchase in advance can do so via the Fever App or website.

Ticket prices start at $22.50 for adults and $18.30 for children.
