"It's okay not to be okay." This is how The Sanctuary Church has been serving the Colorado Springs community in the past seven years.

Its mission started in 2014 when the congregation inherited its building on the west side, as KOAA News5 reported.

Now the church does not only hold Sunday services at 1940 W. Colorado Avenue. It also served as a "one-stop-shop" for people suffering from hunger, homelessness, and seeking counseling.

The Sanctuary Church

The Sanctuary Church describes itself as a "shame-free" church. They are reportedly open to all kinds of people, from saints to sinners.

"The Sanctuary is a place where it is okay to not be okay," the church's official Facebook page reads.

Currently, the congregation holds worship services every Sunday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. They also conduct Recovery Revivals on Sundays at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the newly opened Westside Prayer Room can accommodate people every Wednesday, from 12 noon to 1 p.m.

On Wednesday, Oct. 6, The Sanctuary Church officially launched the Westside Prayer Room. In a Facebook post, they said that the space is dedicated to people who want to soak in God's presence.

It is reportedly a place where anyone is welcome to pray for their intentions, the church, the city, the nation, or even the world.

Ragamuffin Cafe

Over the years, The Sanctuary Church has been a home for healing and recovery. During its early days, they immediately saw a need to help people battling hunger in the community every day.

Soon enough, the church launched its Ragamuffin Cafe ministry. The cafe located in the church's parking lot serves complimentary breakfast every Sunday.

On Oct. 10, the head of Ragamuffin Care said that she continued to serve the Lord through the cafe.

Despite the struggles brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the so-called "Ragamama" explained why she still served the Lord with all her "heart and fire."

She said that serving through the cafe is an act of obedience. For her, it is her way of telling the Lord that she would always trust Him.

"Yes, it's still there but in a different way, kinda like when the honeymoon is over, but the love is deeper!" the ministry head said in a post

One-Stop-Shop

The Sanctuary Church's service does not end at Ragamuffin Cafe.

Over the past seven years, the church has become a source of hope for those in need. They are particularly helping the homeless, the hungry, and those seeking recovery and counseling.

"Whatever we can do to help cross boundaries and barriers, to take borders away so people in the community can connect with one another and share. Love is what we are all about," Pastor Tyler Hill told KOAA News5.

In April, the church transformed a part of its property into a shower and hygiene facility for the homeless.

At that time, Outreach Pastor Jason Bohac told KOAA News5 that they were doing this to give the homeless extra confidence to get back on their feet.

"If they are going into a job interview, if they could get a shower and a haircut, that could be the difference between them having the confidence to nail the interview or fail the interview," Bohac added.
