About Lake Harriet Spiritual Community

The Lake Harriet Spiritual Community is unique as they host national and local speakers every week to assist its congregation in growing spiritually and intellectually. Each month has a new inspiring focus, so they will always be in for something new.

According to the website, LHSC is an active, spiritually varied community that respects and explores its members' connections to the Divine. They aid in the growth of global awareness by dedicating themselves to their development.

In addition to providing a pleasant space for events, workshops, and health programs, they also open it to the general public.

LHSC's goal is to provide a gathering spot for people of all faiths and backgrounds to learn from one another and grow spiritually.

History of LHSC

The Lake Harriet Spiritual Community greatly appreciates its recognition from the United States Department of the Interior's National Park Service by being included on the National Register of Historic Places.

As the Lake Harriet Methodist Episcopal Church, the structure saw its conception and construction in 1916.

According to its history, the church's symmetry, plain walls, full-height classical columns, entrance portico, and pediment-topped outer walls with a drum-supported dome represent the Chicago World's Fair of 1893's Classical Revival style.

The church's beautiful stained, painted, and leaded glass windows remain intact.

Since its construction about a century ago, no changes have been made. As one of the city's few surviving instances of the Classical Revival's Ionic order, the church stands out among the cityscape.

The edifice has served as a church for more than a century, first to the First Church of the Divine Science, then to Lake Harriet Community Church, and now to Lake Harriet Spiritual Community.

The remarkable "dome by the lake" structure is now a thriving Center for Conscious Living that celebrates and investigates each person's relationship to the Divine.
