An architectural firm in Manhattan recently built a housing project that is reportedly designed to give tribute to the former site of the Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York.
Tribute to Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church in Brooklyn
As per an article from the Construction Specifier, the Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens has partnered with the Manhattan-based RKTB Architects, P.C. for the tribute project.
The partnership reportedly built the Pope Francis Apartments, designed to give a tribute to the former site of the Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church.
Accordingly, the mural-size photographs of the Our Lady of Loreto and the entrance of the gate are preserved in the apartment.
The ground floor of the apartment also has two community rooms as per the diocese's request with the building's layout.
As mentioned, the two rooms are designated for the residents of the building and the other communities in the area.
Nelson Vega, associate principal and one of the project leads of RKTB, reportedly said that the firm considered saving the church to redevelop the site.
People showed different efforts in 2009 when the Diocese of Brooklyn decided to close the said church, as reported.
As described, the project is an eco-friendly, eight-story building that is reportedly designed to restore and improve the community who once loved the local church.
Additionally, the RKTB company aimed to be sensitive with the community, which was described as the home of the Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church.
