The Bishops United Against Gun Violence has recently hosted a ‘Doing Our Part’ webinar on Tuesday, June 28.
According to the organization, the webinar aims to give knowledge about the things that can be done in the state to minimize the damage of gun violence following the Supreme Court ruling on concealed carry laws.
The webinar also reportedly seeks to teach the participants how to respond when gun violence happens in their community and nearby states, as reported.
‘Prayer, Education, Advocacy’
As per the post, Episcopal bishops said on the webinar that through prayer, education, and advocacy, people can support the efforts to end gun violence in the community.
Bonnie Perry, Bishop of Michigan, said that there are too many events that have been happening in the country.
She revealed that one of those recent happenings was the United States Supreme Court ruling that gun owners can now carry firearms to public places.
Bishop Perry added in her message that people need to educate, organize, and work themselves to keep the people safe in the community.
Moreover, other Episcopal bishops also expressed their sentiments about the shooting incidents that happened in the church community.
According to the Director of the church’s Washington, D.C.-based Office of Government Relations, Rebecca Blachly, they will continue to fight their advocacy against gun violence. They have been advocating it since the 1970s, as reported.
The webinar also reportedly tackled the strategies to decrease the number of violence and gun deaths in the communities that were defined in Resolution B003.
Supreme Court Ruling on Concealed Carry Law
In an article from The New York Times, the United States Supreme Court has recently approved a law where Americans are now authorized to carry firearms even in public places starting on Thursday, June 21.
According to the post, the Senate had passed the gun control law following the recent mass shootings in a supermarket in Buffalo and an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
The ruling aims to increase the information of the gun buyers in the states for ages 18-21 years old and limit the capacity of gun magazines.
It has reportedly struck down the New York law that prohibits carrying a concealed gun inside and outside their home.
