Brooklyn school hosts 'Wear Lime Green' for student with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

The Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy in Graveyard, Brooklyn, has recently hosted a 'Wear Lime Green' event in support of a student who has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma on June 15.

As reported, the event also raised funds to help the student pay for his medical expenses due to his recent diagnosis.

'Wear Lime Green'

As per the press release, the event is designed to express the school's support and raise funds for a 7th grader, Marco Wilen, who has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for his fight against cancer.

A part of the event is a basketball tournament where students from grades 4 to 8 participate. Wilen also participated in the contest.

The sales of donated desserts and treats by Frost-A-Cake were also added to raise funds for Wilen.

As per posted, those who will extend help to Wilen can send a payable check addressed to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy or through @OurladyofGraceschool-AlumniAss. 

The school assures the benefactors that all raised funds will support his family and medical-related expenses.

Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in Children

According to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma is common in younger children but is common in adolescents. It is the type of cancer that is most common in children.

The symptoms of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma may vary depending on the affected lymph nodes in the body of a child. It may start in younger years, gently growing, and seems rapid for its effect on the children.

The early symptoms of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in children may be examined through various methods to see the exact diagnosis of the children. It may test it through the following examinations:

  • Bone marrow aspirate and biopsy

  • Blood tests
  • Ultrasound
  • CT scan
  • PET CT
  • EKG-Echo (Electrocardiogram and Echocardiogram)
  • Pulmonary function tests

As reported, the treatment of the children may vary on the result of the diagnosis in the children. The doctor will discuss the necessary treatment according to the child's health status.

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has cancer survivorship that provides treatment for the children, which is designed to treat the children who developed complications through their battle against the Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
