Archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York has recently presided over the procession of the monumental Feast of Corpus Christi event.

As per the post, the procession was reportedly held outside of St. Patrick’s Cathedral after the Mass on Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ on Sunday, June 19.

The Corpus Christi processions at St. Patrick’s Cathedral were participated by 30 parishes in the Archdiocese and reportedly marked the start of the National Eucharistic Revival.

The Cardinal said in his Homily that the Feast of Corpus Christi was a time for the parishioners to remember that God will give His people their needs with the body and blood in Holy Communion, at the Holy Eucharist, and remains with His people in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

The Homily reportedly reflects on the Gospel of Luke, which stated that Jesus multiplied the five loaves and two fishes that will feed 5,000 people.

In addition, Father Enrique Salvo, Rector of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, said that they will pray that the Eucharistic Christ will bless New York.

Feast of Corpus Christi

As per the article from the Catholic News Agency, Corpus Christi is the Latin word for Body of Christ. It is also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

The Feast of Corpus Christi is reportedly used as an opportunity for public Eucharistic processions that serves as a sign of common faith and adoration.

It was first celebrated in the mid-thirteenth century in France and was continued by Pope Urban IV to the whole church in 1264.

The purpose of the feast was to give focus on the Eucharist through remembering the sufferings and death of Jesus Christ and to believe in the real presence of Him.

About National Eucharistic Revival

According to an article from the Catholic News Agency, the Eucharistic Revival is an initiative of United States Bishops that aims to inspire people to encounter Jesus in the Eucharist for three years.

Dioceses across the country will organize events that will encourage to deepen the knowledge of the community about the Eucharist from June 19, 2022- June 2023.

The National Eucharistic Revival was reportedly expecting the people to teach in the community that the presence of Jesus Christ will make the world better.

According to the report presented at CNA, only 31 percent of the population in the U.S. believes in the Holy Eucharist.

Meanwhile, 69 percent of the population believe that the bread and wine that are being accepted during Holy Mass are merely just a symbol of the body and blood of Jesus.

The U.S. Bishops are also encouraging all the Catholic members to join the National Eucharistic Revival by sending prayers and sharing their testimonies with their community.

As reported, over 100,000 Catholics are expected to participate in the event.

The event can be viewed through online platforms and in person, so everyone can be part of the celebration.

The national event is reportedly happening on July 17-21, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
