About the Archdiocese of Newark

In 1853, Pope Pius IX issued a Papal Brief that mandated that the whole state of New Jersey is included within the boundaries of the Diocese of Newark.

It was promoted to the position of Archdiocese on Dec. 10, 1937.

St. Patrick's Pro-Cathedral in Newark was reportedly chosen to serve as its cathedral.

Accordingly, the Archdiocese acknowledges that it is primarily a community centered on the Eucharist and a sacrament, serving as live evidence of the presence of Jesus Christ.

The Eucharist, which Catholics celebrate together, serves as a sign and a means of their present togetherness and of the much greater oneness yet to be attained in the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

The unity will be realized in the context of the church. Moreover, the members of the Archdiocese are Christians who adhere to the Catholic faith.

They reportedly acknowledge and understand that the life and ministry of Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection are expressions of the Father's love for all people.

As individuals and a community, they have been tasked with answering the call to be living witnesses of Christ's presence and His ongoing mission in our society.

The Catholic community across the Archdiocese is reportedly respectful to the Holy Spirit and under the direction of the Pope and the Archbishop.

They are being called to share in the co-responsibility of being attentive, loving, obedient, and worshipful people.
