Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA), based in New York City, has recently been awarded the former supreme knight of the Knights of Columbus.
2022 Faith and Culture Award
According to the Catholic News Agency article, Carl Anderson, a former supreme knight of the Knights of Columbus, was awarded the 2022 Faith and Culture Award for his charitable work for the Christians in Iraq.
As mentioned, Anderson helped to ensure that future generations could live in the cradle of Christianity.
In the aftermath of the 2014 invasion of Iraq by ISIS, Anderson oversaw the Knights as they assumed a leadership position in the assistance provided to Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq.
Christians in Iraq are currently in a place where they can see a future for themselves because of the material help the Knights provide.
Young Christians now have a reason to remain in Iraq due to the founding of the Catholic University in Erbil, which was made possible owing to the efforts of the Knights of Columbus and other organizations.
Anderson reportedly served as Supreme Knight from the years 2000 to 2021.
Moreover, as he received the award, he reportedly remembered Andrew Walther, his former colleague, the late Andrew Walther, as a "real hero in this cause."
Andrew Walther passed away from leukemia at the age of 45 in 2020.
Also, he mentioned his brother Knights for their support for fellow Christians in their times of need and Walther for spending the last six years of his life protecting the Christians in Iraq.
Furthermore, Anderson discussed three "lessons" he had learned while assisting Christians in the Nineveh Plains of Iraq during his talk.
- Catholics should do more to make "real neighbors in the faith" of Christians persecuted in many parts of the world.
- The United States of America and other countries need to increase the assistance they provide to persecuted Christians.
- Assisting Christians persecuted is a mission each Catholic should take on.
Catholic Near East Welfare Association
The Catholic Near East Welfare Association is an agency of the Pope that raises money and donates it to Eastern churches.
The funds will be given to the dedicated religious sisters who run the clinics, schools, and other social services for the common good and will have the resources they need to continue their essential work.
According to the words of one of their partners, they do not support individuals just because they are Christians. They help because they are Christians.
They reportedly help the needy by assisting and protecting families, the elderly, and the disabled by acting in this manner.
Also, they encourage people considering a life of religious service to become nuns or priests and provide financial support for pastoral projects that strengthen Christian communities.
In addition, they have been doing their work since 1926.
As mentioned, CNEWA is not one of the largest humanitarian organizations operating worldwide.
But in over a dozen different nations, with the help of good individuals like you, they spread acts of kindness to everyone who needs it, regardless of their religious beliefs.
