The Episcopal Church has encouraged Episcopalians to join the Young Adult Service Corps (YASC).

The church has recently opened the applications for the service year 2022-2023.

YASC is the international missionary program of the New York City-based congregation.

The Church Accepts Applications

According to a press release, the church will accept YASC applications until Friday, Jan. 21, 2022.

As per the report, YASC marks its two decades of missionary work to global communities.

The Episcopal Church is looking for young adults aged 21-30 to dedicate themselves to the program.

YASC will give a chance to individuals to pursue the Way of Love. It is the intentional commitment of the church to follow Jesus, the report noted.

The Way of Love reportedly allows them to create a "deeper" connection with God. It also builds relationships with the worldwide Anglican Church.

It becomes possible through a year of mission initiatives with communities across the world.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Boe shared the opportunities that await the YASC volunteers. She is the mission personnel officer and a former YASC Tanzania volunteer.

“YASC offers young adults the opportunity to go and be with our partners around the Anglican Communion," she said.

Roles of YASC Participants

The press release enumerated some of the responsibilities of the service corps participants.

Missionary young adults reportedly work as instructors at schools managed by the church.

YASC participants also assist development professionals during their service year. Together with these experts, they strive to engage local communities, the report stated.

Aside from that, participants also get involved in the daily parish and ministry life. They reportedly help churches and cathedrals in the Anglican Communion.

Through YASC, young adults have served in 41 nations since the program's inception.

In 2022, the program may send YASC participants to the following locations:

  • Japan
  • Kenya
  • Mexico
  • the Philippines
  • South Africa
  • Sri Lanka
  • Tanzania
  • Costa Rica
  • Dominican Republic
  • Ecuador
  • El Salvador
  • England
  • France
  • Honduras
  • Italy

The Episcopal Church stressed that placements are not limited to these locations only.

Impact of Pandemic On Local And Global Families

As per the press release, Rev. David Copley pointed out the effects of the pandemic. He is the global partnerships and mission personnel director.

Reverend Copley claimed that the pandemic changed the way communities connect.

The director, however, said that technology helped them cope with the current condition.

"Thanks to technology," said Reverend David, who was also a former missionary. "We have been able to stay connected and strengthen our relationships when we cannot gather in person."

Reverend Copley further stated that they adopted new methods of showing care for others.

The director revealed that they also observe social distancing measures. They also require individuals to wear masks during in-person gatherings.
