Several groups of both pro-life and pro-abortion protesters have recently clashed outside the New York City Catholic church, leading to multiple arrests by the police.

Clash of Pro-life, Pro-abortion Protesters

According to an article from Fox News, on Saturday, Aug. 6, a group of pro-abortion protesters went to The Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral in Lower Manhattan.

After a while, they were joined by pro-life movements that were nearby the Planned Parenthood site with the goal of shutting down the abortion clinic. As explained, the pro-life protesters are usually outside the Catholic church every first Sunday of each month as a sign of protest against abortion laws in the country.

The New York Young Republican Club Catholic Caucus has provided the video to Fox News, showing that pro-abortion protesters shouted against the members of the church as they entered the congregation. Some of the protesters even called them 'Nazis.'

As a result, five people were reportedly arrested by the New York Police Department.

However, the NYPD did not give any information about the identity of the people who got arrested, as reported.

According to the Left Voice website, some of the pro-life activists in the country normally organize an event every first Sunday of the month.

It was said to be on the same schedule as the pro-abortion protesters to disturb its patients. These events are usually held outside the SoHo Planned Parenthood, a health care facility for safe abortions.

Moreover, the NYC for Abortion Rights, a group of pro-abortion protesters, also organized an event to fight against the event of the pro-life crowd, as reported.

The anti-abortion protesters usually conduct a procession from The Basilica of Old St Patrick's Cathedral to the SoHo Planned Parenthood, as reported.

At the time, the protesters did not lead a procession after the arrest of Christopher Moscinski, a Catholic priest and reportedly the main organizer of the event.

Abortion in New York State

Abortion is one of the programs of the state of New York City to its people, as reported.

In an article from the New York state website, abortion access is legal in the state even before the Roe v. Wade decision, which allows safe and legal abortion in the state.

Gov. Kathy Hochul of the NY state reportedly preserved and secured the abortion rights of the people in the state following the recent attacks on the federal law.

She said that the federal law does affect the law of the New York state, as reported.

The governor also ensures all the people in the state can access safe and legal reproductive healthcare, according to the following abortion access:

  • Abortion access is available to all people who need reproductive healthcare support, whether from New York or not.
  • There will reportedly be an option for those who are seeking an abortion, such as medication and in-clinic abortion.
  • Abortion is still allowed even after 24 weeks of pregnancy, but only if it is an emergency.

Accordingly, abortion access in New York has been legal since 1970.
