Following the selection of new vocation promoters, the Archdiocese of New York recently appointed a new rector.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan has reportedly chosen Father Enrique Salvo to lead the St. Patrick's Cathedral.
The Roman Catholic Cathedral church serves as the seat of the Archbishop of New York.
Cathedral to Install New Rector
According to Catholic New York (CNY), the Archdiocese announced the appointment on Friday, Nov. 5.
Father Salvo will reportedly begin his duties as the new Cathedral rector on Monday, Nov. 15.
Meanwhile, the New York Cathedral will witness a new leadership after more than 15 years.
Father Enrique will replace Msgr. Robert T. Ritchie, the longtime rector of St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Based on the National Catholic Reporter, Msgr. Ritchie has served the Cathedral since 2006. His name was reportedly dragged to a nearly half-century-old sexual abuse allegations.
The soon-to-be-replaced rector, however, denounced these claims "without reservation."
Who is Father Salvo?
CNY reported that Father Salvo is currently serving St. Anselm and St. Roch parish.
The report said that he is the pastor of the Bronx-based parish. Aside from that, Father Salvo also works as the dean of the Bronx West.
He has been serving the parishioners of St. Anselm and St. Roch parish since 2017.
According to the report, Father Salvo also became an administrator in the parish for one year.
The newly appointed rector also contributed to promoting the vocations in the Archdiocese.
He previously worked as the Archdiocesan director of vocations for about four years, the report said.
Additionally, Father Salvo headed New York's regional vocation promoters from 2012 to 2016.
He was also assigned to Manhattan's Washington Heights. Father Enrique headed St. Elizabeth parish as a parochial vicar from 2010-2012.
The report further said that Father Salvo was born in Nicaragua. He was reportedly ordained to the priesthood in 2010.
Archdiocese Appoints New Vocation Leaders
To recall, Crossmap reported that the Archdiocese installed a new director of vocations.
Cardinal Dolan appointed Father George Sears to lead the promotion of vocations in the Archdiocese.
Father Sears is an administrator in the Holy Name of Jesus-St. Gregory the Great parish.
He will perform his duties as the new vocations director while also serving the parish.
The Archbishop of New York recognized the "radiant curriculum vitae" of Father Sears.
The new director reiterated that he knew how critical his position is for the Archdiocese.
"Being the rector of a college seminary beforehand, I know how important this is. So it's really good to walk with them on their journey," Father Sears stressed.
Moreover, the report also bared that the Archdiocese has given new roles to 15 priests. They will be the regional vocation promoters.
The new director will reportedly fulfill his duties with the 15 recently installed Catholic priests.
