The Tablet had conducted a Bright Christmas campaign for children and families all over the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Bright Christmas Campaign

According to an article from The Tablet, the Bright Christmas campaign is run by The Tablet annually to ensure that no child celebrates Christmas without receiving at least one gift.

The campaign raised $119,848.71 in 2018, contributing to over $1.6 million that has been amassed over the campaign's previous ten years.

Because of the donations, a number of the Diocese's schools, churches, and other charitable organizations were able to make the Christmas season an experience to remember for disadvantaged children and their families.

The recipients included diocesan parishes, such as the Shrine Church of Our Lady of Solace in Coney Island, whose aim was to provide toys for children from low-income families as part of their annual Christmas celebration.

Maria Garces, who is in charge of the religious education programs at the parish, said that the children benefited greatly from the Bright Christmas program.

On Sunday, Dec. 18, following the conclusion of Sunday school, the school surprised all of the students with a party.

Toys and goodie bags were provided to children who, under normal circumstances, might not receive anything.

Moreover, the pupils at Ss. Joachim and Anne School in Queens have always shown compassion for those in need; last year was no different.

As the number of refugees entering the Diocese increased, the Queens Village school made a special effort to welcome newly arrived students.

Furthermore, the fund also contributed to replenishing St. John's Bread and Life's pantry.

According to Sr. Caroline Tweedy, RSM executive director, their aim is straightforward: to nourish the body, mind, and spirit of anyone in need.

Sr. Caroline also mentioned that St. John's Bread and Life attempts to generate donations to offer 750-holiday food baskets to families in need.

In addition to St. John's Bread and Life, Bright Christmas assisted in the following whose efforts helped put holiday dinners and gifts under the tree for many struggling families.

  • Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens
  • St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters
  • Make a Difference Christmas
  • Families, Fathers, and Children
  • Providence House
  • Reaching-Out Community Services

The Tablet

Based on its website, since 1908, The Tablet has been the official publication of the Diocese of Brooklyn, serving both Brooklyn and Queens.

The boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens are both under the administration of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn.

As mentioned, Brooklyn and Queens are under the care of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. His Excellency, the Most Reverend Robert J. Brennan, the eighth and current Bishop of Brooklyn, presides over it.

The combined population of the boroughs exceeds 4.9 million, with 1.3 million Catholics. The Cathedral Basilica of St. James in downtown Brooklyn serves as the diocesan cathedral.

As a result of the Diocese's varied and diversified demographics, Masses are regularly celebrated in a total of 177 parishes and over 200 churches, and these celebrations take place in a total of 26 distinct languages.

Its 26 ethnic ministries are responsible for promoting cultural events and allowing immigrants to feel like they belong in the greater community while conserving and passing on the traditions and customs specific to their heritage.
