Imago Dei Church to hold support group for grieving

Image Dei Church will host a meeting to support the grieving through the Grief Group on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The church encouraged those grieving the loss of a loved one to attend the event.

Grief Group

As announced on Facebook, Imago Dei Church aims to continue its work of consoling and giving guidance to those grieving. The church acknowledged that holidays have an entirely different set of challenges for those grieving. 

Grief Group at Imago Dei Church will focus on tools to help these people get through the season. Its next meeting will discuss the "Tools for Managing Holidays and Special Days. Licensed clinicians who are part of the church lead the classes for the Grief Group. 

As per its website, Imago Dei Church experienced a great deal of loss in its community within the last two years. The church believes that among its duty is to journey with those grieving in its community. 

The church launched the Grief Group in January 2022. It is a 12-month grief group, where meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month. 

Imago Dei Church encouraged anyone dealing with the grief of losing a loved one, whether it is recent or not, to join the Grief Group. It explores the process of grieving.

Furthermore, Grief Group supports the challenges brought about by losing someone. Licensed clinicians who are part of Imago Dei Church facilitate the group. 

As stated on the website, the group is an open group. Anyone interested may attend as they are able and available. The first group met on Jan. 9.

The next gatherings are scheduled for Nov. 13 and Dec. 11. The topic for Nov. 13 is "Memories". Finally, the Grief Group will discuss "How to Continue the Grieving Process" on Dec. 11.

Imago Dei Church's address is 2221 N Gale Ave., Peoria. This church acknowledged that finding a church could be difficult. It said it is understood that some might wonder if they belong or be accepted in a church.

According to its Facebook page, the church will hold its "Lula Closet Workday "on Oct. 16 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. This activity will enable the church to clean and organize, prepare for colder months, and receive stock for the shower project.

It is time to prepare for winter and prepare personal supplies for the future shower and laundry station.

As shared on its website, Imago Dei had its beginnings in the Spring of 2008. Imago Dei had grown from where it started. It moved to several locations throughout the years. 

It relocated from a basement to the Gateway building, Arcadia Street, and its present location. The 3 Circles of its identity stand for Community, Missions, and Practices. 

The Leadership Team gives direction to Imago Dei Church. Melinda Sparks serves as pastor of this faith community.
