City Church San Diego invited all married couples to attend the “Love, Respect, and Marriage” Class 2022 on Sundays, from Sept.18 to Oct. 9.

The church’s announcement posted that the course would be an excellent venue for equipping, refreshing, and strengthening marriages. They noted that each couple would learn to work together as the church would talk about interesting topics.

Some of the topics covered in the class are each individual's needs, intimacy, and financial issues.

As further announced, the church would provide childcare services and welcome them to join the second service in Kids Church.

According to the website, the church would try to adjust the schedule for those couples serving in the Sunday Team so they could still help in the church while attending the class.

Preaching on Marriage

The Lead Pastor of City Church, Jerry McKinney, revealed in his preaching that he has some differences with his wife, Pastor Tami. On the church’s YouTube video, Pastor McKinney noted that he likes to save money while his wife wants to spend it shopping and going out.

He emphasized, "It's not about who’s right and wrong; it's about figuring out how to deal with differences."

He noted that communication is essential in marriage. McKinney revealed that he does not talk too much with his wife. Further explained, this caused their marriage problems since his wife wanted him to talk.

Struggling over Differences

In the same video, McKinney said, “The differences lead to miracles,” As further explained, most couples do not understand that God made everyone different for His purpose.

According to McKinney, marriage could be better once each person learns that they are not the same as their spouse. He added that God could bring flavors to their marriage if they learned to accept their uniqueness.

On the other hand, the pastor explained in his video that Satan could magnify differences and use them to mess up people’s lives. As further mentioned, Satan could take all small things into a bigger picture to use them against God and His people.

Moreover, McKinney emphasized that the devil relies on each one’s impatience. He is rooting for the misinterpretation of marriage so he can tempt them to end it.

He also revealed that the devil is threatened by marriage. In the video, Pastor McKinney stated that the devil was afraid when God told Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply to control the earth for His glory.

In addition, he noted that Satan is being threatened by those striving for their marriage because it brings glory to God. He said that the devil is using lies and trying to make people believe they are not happy in the relationship and deserve better.

He tried to convince people that they could not fix their relationships.

Confusion on Marriage

More importantly, McKinney stressed that people forget their roles and what it means to be a husband and wife.

God can do anything for a couple willing to take responsibility. He said people are designed for marriage. He further noted that 86% of divorced people are not because of significant issues but other issues like money, sex, and children.

McKinney emphasized that healthy marriages do not make decisions based on their emotions.
