City View Church is a multi-generational congregation. With this, they designed a unique ministry for the seniors called the City View Church (CVC) 55+. They hold a weekly gathering on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

The church’s website mentioned that the gathering is for bonding and community—these meetings have time to relate with friends and uplift worship. During the said event, seniors could enrich their souls by learning through interactive Bible study.

Aside from this, the church also stated that they set schedules for extra activities for the CVC 55+ to enjoy. They include bus outings, San Diego walking tours, seasonal luncheons, etc.

Embracing Senior Adults

On the same website, the church emphasized that people ages 55 and over have the longingness for life-giving relationships and a supportive community.  Also, they need spiritual maturity. They said many enter a new chapter of life with a changed focus and new chances for meaningful participation.

As of now, the website revealed that adults in the said age are a crucial part of becoming the life-giving presence of Jesus in today’s society. Those individuals born before 1968 include a diverse post-WWII generation that has hugely impacted the world, as posted on the church’s website. They added that these people would continue to change the world.

Keeping Connected Amidst Pandemic

Meanwhile, the church made over 100 episodes of inspiring and quality content videos to keep senior members connected and growing during lockdowns. They made some videos about inspiration and worship. They also include health tips people could do at home. They feature contributors every week from regular in-person gatherings.

One of the videos is from Pastor Ed and Edie Chapman, wherein they made a 15 to 20-minute video to inspire senior members. The website noted that they tackled segments from Paul’s “letters from his imprisonment.” They have a chapter-by-chapter devotional series founded on Paul’s prison epistles.

Moreover, Pastor Steve and Lou Ann Asmuth encouraged CVC 55+ to gather around their living room and join them as they sang classical music from the golden age of worship. The church also prepared videos about health wherein Sandy Grove discussed “Health Tracks.” Grove is a teaching nurse with sharp healthcare. She also had a lot of experience dealing with senior health topics and pandemic preparation.

The church also highly urges its senior members to follow the counsel as they vitally care for physicians and health providers. They added that they understand that their congregants include high-risk individuals who may have underlying medical situations.

55+ Class

On the  CVC, Adults 55+ Facebook page, they announced on May 22 that they would continue their study on Chapter 10 of Mark’s Gospel. They would be looking at Jesus’ counsel to the Rich Young Ruler.

They also noted that they met in the Student Center and would continue on Sundays at the same place through June 5.

In the said ministry, there are 166 members of the said Facebook group.
