Eastside Community Church members join the Adopt-A-Block Outreach to help the homeless individuals in Downtown San Diego as a part of their neighborhood outreach every third Saturday of each month.
The church outreach section stated that they pray for these people in the streets and then give out clothes and food. They also encourage them by delivering a message. They noted that they gather at 5:30 p.m. at 1745 Third Street, San Diego.
Church’s Mission, Principles
The church reveals on its webpage that they are a non-denominational community of Christ’s followers. They are naturally evangelical and passionate about worship. They added that they are intensive in prayer and dedicated to serving the Lord and others.
One of the church’s principles is that they believe there is one living and genuine God in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
They noted that all these persons are equal in power and glory. Also, they believe the Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are God’s words. They noted that God entirely inspired these words with errors in the original manuscripts.
The website mentioned that they believe in Jesus Christ as the only begotten son. The Holy Spirit conceived him in the womb of a virgin, as posted on the website. The church believes that Jesus lives blamelessly and believes in His miracles and teachings.
San Diego Dream Center: Adopt-A-Block
Adopt A Block is one of the San Diego Dream Center’s programs. According to the organization’s website, the program has touched the lives of thousands of San Diegans.
A group of volunteers with the organization pray for the people in the streets. They visit regularly and create a one-on-one connection. This effort includes regular elderly visitors, the website added.
They mentioned that block leaders get the list of prayer requests, and volunteers handle the food, clothing, water, and hygiene kits. Other than this program, they also extend this ministry through their Shelter Access or Rescue Project.
They also provide nursing home ministry, clothing, and food ministry.
The said project also includes hospital and prison visitation, as posted on the website.
Dream for San Diego
The organization stated that its vision centers on individuals, giving them the unconditional love of God, as posted in another website section. They desire to fulfill God’s purpose and dreams by helping the unfortunate people.
In their story, they noted that Cathy and Daniel Duncan, the founder and director of The San Diego Dream Center, immediately noticed the significant number of homeless adults, families, and children when they moved to the “America’s Finest City” in July 2005.
Daniel stated that there is not enough effort to deal with this increasing need in the community while he is living and working downtown.
He said they are not new to the needs of the least since they have served in the ministry for many years, so they started the San Diego Dream Center.
Duncan noted that with their Adopt-A-Block Project, they believe it is the Lord's heart. They reach out beyond the four walls of their church to minister the Gospel of Peace to the homeless.
