Ethnost Community Church invited parents to attend the Fall Parent Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Doyle Recreation Center at 9:45 a.m.

The church’s announcement posted that Pastor Erick Santos would be their guest speaker. They added that they would be talking about the effects of social media on children. Santos would also discuss connecting the impact to mental and spiritual health, as noted on the website.

It added that they would provide childcare and lunch for everyone.

Scary Impact of Social Media

The Cleveland Clinic website revealed that letting children indulge in social networking sites could be “scary.” Child psychologist Kate Eshleman, PsyD, tackles the probable risk of children using social media.

The website emphasized that users of social media applications should be at least 13 years old. But they mentioned that in their recent survey, 33% of children aged seven to nine use SMS apps. Besides, half of the children are 10 to 12 years old.

Research shows that children under 11 who are using Instagram and Snapchat could have “problematic digital behavior,” as explained on the website. They could only have friends online and could surf sites that parents do not allow.

The website stressed that there are more chances for these children to be harassed online.

Another study mentioned the effect of using TikTok for kids. As noted on the website, it causes “tic-like attacks” where children suffer from movement disorders. Besides, the website said they could be more irritated and anxious.

They added that the use of social media makes individuals less confident in themselves.

Knowing Ethnos Church

According to the church’s webpage, Ethnos Community Church desires to break the barriers between culture and ethnicity so people can freely know Jesus. They believed that they existed because of the love of Jesus Christ, who brought change to the world.

Moreover, in the church’s “about” section, they explained the meaning of “Ethnos.” As further explained, it is a Greek word used in the original writings of the Bible. They noted that it means “nation," but it refers to a particular cultural-lingual individual group.

The word “Ethnos” is used to discuss God's wonderful desire and purpose to bless all humans. The church noted that they have selected this name to describe their identity. They want to be the church that has the desire and purpose.

The same website emphasized that the church holds firmly to the scripture in Matthew 28:19, which says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.”  In this book, Jesus also told his disciples to baptize the people in His name, His Father, and the Holy Spirit.

Ethnos Network

To fulfill Ethnos Community Church’s mission, they created the Ethnos Network. According to its website, it is a collaboration of church pastors that finds new areas for people to connect with Jesus.

They stated that they serve major global universities and areas throughout the city. The website emphasized that they are united in love and belief. As further mentioned, members of the network trust each other.
