The First Presbyterian Church (FPC) San Diego invites its congregation to enjoy a day of games, music, and BBQ on their Neighborhood BBQ to salute and celebrate the armed forces on July 2, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The church events noted that Westminster Orchestra would play, and they would have Bluegrass music for everyone to enjoy. They also encouraged congregants to bring their entire families.
Why Honor Armed Forces
The White House website emphasized that brave Americans have always come forward to protect their liberties throughout history. They added that these soldiers are willing to pay the price to keep their country secure.
The website proclaimed that the Nation’s Armed Forces are the best in the world. They said that it is not only the person who wears their Nation’s uniform that serves but also their loved ones.
With this, the country celebrates Armed Forces Day on May 20 to share its continuous appreciation for the proud patriots. These people responded to the call to serve, as posted on the website. They added that these soldiers took the sacred vow to protect their constitution.
They highlighted that the courageous members of their Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps represent their country's best. The website also respects those in the Space Forces, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserve forces. The White House said that they appreciate their invaluable service.
Support Them as They Protect
Meanwhile, they also pay tribute to the sacrifices that their service members and their families make on their behalf. The website noted that they are committing again to their sacred responsibility to help them as they protect the country.
The White House mentioned that the nation has sacred accountability to train and prepare troops properly. Especially when they are dangerously sent to support them.
The website also noted that they should fulfill their obligation while soldiers serve in other countries and when they come back home.
Also, they should meet their responsibilities to their families, caregivers, and survivors.
Celebrating Independence Day
The church honors the armed forces in line with their celebration of Independence Day on July 4. The Military website mentioned that on July 4, 1976, the 13 colonies claimed their freedom from England. They said that it was an event that led to the formation of the United States.
The website added that Americans commemorate this historic event every year on the Fourth of July. They said there was an argument between the colonies and England. Still, it was already a year old when the colonies summoned a Continental Congress in Philadelphia in the summer of 1776.
They said that Richard Henry Lee of Virginia showed a resolution in a June 7 meeting in the Pennsylvania State House. This resolution has the famous words: "Resolved: That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved."
The original copy of the Declaration is in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Also, the Fourth of July has been designed as a national holiday.
