First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of San Diego will be running the second series for Alzheimer’s Disease on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
The church’s announcement posted that they would discuss Alzheimer’s and dementia in the said gathering. They added that the church partners with the Alzheimer’s association to help spread awareness about the disease.
Besides, the website posted that the last part of the series is about healthy living for the brain and body. They will conduct this on Friday, Sept. 28.
Alzheimer’s Association
According to the Alzheimer’s Association website, they are making efforts to stop Alzheimer’s and other kinds of dementia. They noted that the association is developing global studies and reducing the harmful impact of the disease.
The same website mentioned that they are conducting research to identify the symptoms earlier. They want could help in maximizing the quality of care and help the patient's needs, as posted on the website.
Association's Efforts
As part of the Alzheimer’s Association, they noted they are raising concerns about dementia to persuade individuals to join them in the fight against the disease.
The Awareness section revealed that the association is asking celebrities to represent their mission. They added that these famous people are dedicated to “going purple.” They are motivating people to join the global discussion about the brain and other diseases.
Moreover, the website explained that June is the month for Alzheimer’s and brain awareness.
Hope for First Survivor
In another section, the association revealed that Alzheimer’s is the only sickness with no treatment and no survivors. But they emphasized that they have hope of finding the first survivor.
The website stressed that someday people with Alzheimer’s would keep on doing everything their disease has stolen from them.
The association is passionate about making it happen, as posted on its website.
Through their initiatives, such as funding research, the association believes that a cure is possible. They stated that they are involved in the majority of major disease research and development.
More importantly, they are initiating financial support to address the Alzheimer’s challenges. They also posted that they are working with all communities to offer intensive care and support.
As stated on the website, the association is providing tools so that no one will have to deal with the disease alone.
Dementia vs. Alzheimer’s
Another section explained that dementia is a general term for a loss of mental activity to deal with daily life. They also mentioned that Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia, which is a particular disease.
The same webpage revealed that knowing the difference between these two is vital to strengthening people living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia. They also said it could also help their families and caregivers know how to respond to their disease appropriately.
They emphasized that dementia is not a common part of aging. Dementia patients were unable to communicate or think clearly due to brain cell damage.
On the other hand, Alzheimer’s is caused by complexity in the changes of the brain, followed by cell damage, as further explained on the website.
