The Grace City invites the congregation to join them in a day of serving refugee families in City Heights with Pastor Silas on April 16 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at Ibarra Elementary School Joint Field Orange Avenue, San Diego.

The church website mentioned that they collaborate with Agape Myanmar Mission, led by Pastor Silas Lian. This said mission is a ministry to the Burmese Refugee community in San Diego.

Agape Myanmar Mission

More than 50 million Myanmar (Burmese) people are still waiting for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as posted on the organization’s website.

Its mission is to give Myanmar (Burmese) individuals a new hope and a new life in Jesus through holistic ministries such as education and Literature. Also, they wanted to help by developing outreach projects, training trainers, and planting churches.

The said organization also posted that by the year 2023, all the Myanmar people must learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They believed that it was their responsibility and privilege to make disciples of all nations.

Reaching Myanmar (Burmese) People

The said organization noted that they print and distribute Myanmar Gospel Books, tracts, and media. Also, they support children and their studies in the war zone, Myanmar Border area. They also provide personal and mass evangelism. Meanwhile, they also train leaders for discipleship programs while having home bible studies and celebration services.

The group also holds various community outreach projects and development projects in Myanmar. They also said they equip pastors and church planters in the said area and plant churches across the United States and Myanmar (Burma).

Myanmar Refugee in California

The article written by Margaret Colson on the Baptist Press website stated that many refugees from Myanmar (formerly Burma) are desperately looking for new lives in America, like Soe Htwe, a Buddhist monk. He finds a new life in Jesus. Htwe traveled from Myanmar by a refugee camp in Thailand to San Diego. Then he met Pastor Silas Lian, who founded the said organization to reach almost 2,000 Myanmar people in the city.

The writer mentioned that Lian and the other Christian leaders were passionate and committed to visiting the “Burmese” family’s houses to pray for them and share the Gospel day and night. She also noted that soon they developed a relationship with Htwe and invited the monkey to a house of fellowship on Saturday night. Htwe heard the Gospel, but he had a double mind in accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior. So, Lian invited him to weeknight Bible sessions.

He made a great decision and got baptized, yet he was still in the discipleship process. The article mentioned that the monk is just one of many refugees from Myanmar who believed and accepted Jesus Christ. Lian also stated that he has personally led more than 70 individuals to Christ, and more than 40 have made professions of faith.

Besides, the website reported that Lian has a heart for Myanmar refugees because he was one of them. He left Myanmar more than 15 years ago because of political and religious discrimination.

“He is a refugee, and he can understand the mindset of other refugees,” noted Ross Shepherd, church planting team leader of the California Southern Baptist Convention.
