Journey Community Church encouraged its members to participate in its 62nd Blood Drive on Aug. 14, Sunday, from 8 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the church’s parking lot.

The church's website showed that it had been a part of this initiative for the past 18 years. They added that they have reached out to over four thousand individuals through their members’ blood donations.

As further explained, Journey Community Church desires to continue to be part of the San Diego Blood Mobile, for the church wants to influence its neighborhood.

Throughout the years, the church emphasized that they have collected more than one thousand units of blood.

On the same website, the Journey Community Church informed its congregation that they would have to make an appointment online so they could donate anytime. There would also be limited walk-in appointments, as posted on the website.

The church mentioned that members should inform the bloodmobile staff to use the code “MK21” so Mark Kohlenberg will be benefited. Besides, they could also use the code “CP20” to give their blood donation to little Calton, as informed on the website.

The same website revealed that all blood types are insufficient.

Face behind Blood Donations

According to the same website, Mark Kohlenberg has been a part of the Journey Community Church since he was a kid. They added that he is an active worker in the church’s high school program called the "encounter.” He also worked voluntarily in the church’s Facilities Team while studying at university.

However, on Aug. 31, 2021, the church stated that Kohlenberg had been diagnosed with leukemia, which surprised him and his family. The website added that he needed a lot of blood transfusions and other blood products like platelets since it is a blood cancer.

As further explained on the website, because of Kohlenberg’s condition, blood donations and drives have been familiar to him and his family. The church added that the motto “Give the gift of life” has become a reality.

In addition, Kohlenberg realized that a person giving a part of their “life” by giving their blood could save the receiver's life. He considers it impressive and noble.

Amazing Little Colton

Journey Community Church also asked members to remember the code for Colton. The website noted that at 14 months old, Colton had a very high risk of B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

The website said that Colton had experienced many life-saving transfusions in the past two months. He had transfers of red blood cells, platelets, and proteins from blood plasma.

Colton could stay strong and continue his battle against cancer through these transfusions, as mentioned on their website.

The little boy was firm despite facing the rugged road, as revealed on the website.

San Diego Blood Bank

The San Diego Blood Bank website said its goal is to save lives. They want to achieve their mission by providing quality blood services to their neighborhood.

The same website revealed that San Diego Blood Bank offers various blood banking services. They give across the Southern California regional hospitals. These services include collecting blood, preparing components, plateletpheresis, etc.

In addition, they noted that San Diego Blood Bank’s Cord Blood Banking Program gives “lifesaving stem cell transplants” to people in need worldwide.
