Couples at Saddleback Valley Community Church are invited to Couples’ Night Out: The Magic Ration on Aug. 5, Friday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The church’s website announced that this month’s theme centers on learning to choose positivity despite the couple's situations. The church highlighted that George and Olga Kenney would teach about the magic ratio. They would also discuss some practical resources.
The discussion would help couples to bring more positivity to their relationships, as posted on their website. They added that effective and healthy communication is vital in doing marriage work.
As further explained, the church noted that the happiest couples do not have fewer issues than others. But these marriages choose to be more positive.
During the event, couples at Saddleback will have fun as they connect and other teams, as emphasized on its website. They encourage couples to make their relationships and marriages an incredible journey.
Marriage Works
According to the Faith San Diego website, George and Olga Kenney founded the group Marriage Works. The website further explained that this group is for married couples of all ages and seasons.
The group gathers every other Friday at 7 p.m. in their home in Carmel Valley, as posted on the website. They added that their fellowship starts with dessert and gathering. Then they would have an exciting ice-breaker, as mentioned on the same website.
The website mentioned that the group would listen to some short teaching during the said gathering. Afterward, each couple could have private time to discuss some topical questions.
Besides, they added that the couple would discuss the teaching. Then participants would end it with a group prayer.
Power in Positivity
The Institute for Family Studies revealed that having more positivity in marriage is reported to be more “committed to their partner.”
They added that these couples have more satisfaction and more positive communication.
As further explained on the website, positive thinking will likely help improve a person’s demeanor. It will also help them with their well-being. They also mentioned that many people motivate their friends to look at the positive side of a stressful situation.
However, the website emphasized that this positive thinking rarely applies in marriage. The website noted that scholars have rarely studied whether positive thinking about one’s marriage might benefit individuals and couples.
Marriage over Others
The website emphasized that most of the couples in their study had only been married for less than two years. They found a bit of a difference in their sample. The institution used a unique method to assess the value of marriage.
As further noted, they asked married couples how they value their spousal role compared to other priorities in their life. As added on their website, these priorities involve work, parenting, and leisure.
The website revealed that only about half of both wives and husbands mentioned that their marriage is their top priority. Also, they found out that there is a vast difference in the percent importance placed on marriage relative to their life priorities.
The researchers said they first analyzed the relationship between positive beliefs. They see their thinking about marriage and well-being. They noted that those in better relationships would likely see their relationships and roles more positively.
