Members of Kairos church are encouraged to take part in their one-day Kairos Basketball League Tournament on May 22 at Mesa Verde Park in Mira Mesa.

The church website announced that they had reserved two outdoor courts from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to hold the required games. They said they have four versus four and five versus five formats where it would be based on the number of players who registered.

They also reminded all those who signed up would be mandated to attend at least one “play-in” session on the following Sundays and Mondays before the said competition. They noted that Play-in training would be on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. at Hourglass Park and Monday evenings at 7 p.m. at Hilltop Park.

The church emphasized that these Play-in sessions are for Sports Ministry to measure everyone’s ability to play to divide the group evenly.

Church Values

The church emphasized its four central values on its website. First, they give importance to worship. According to them, they make sure they have a word-based and Spirit-driven worship in the church. Also, they believed that every Christians should be a growing minister.

Besides, the church values each one's transformation and their communities. They also focus on evangelizing others to fulfill their mission.

Importance of Sports for Christians

The Christian Study Library revealed that sports are essential. In today’s society, sports tournaments are valuable social gatherings. The website noted that the game is not a matter of winning or losing but how participants play the game.

Moreover, they mentioned that sports are not only fun but also healthy. As for the church tournament, it is not only a sports program but also a social meeting. Friends, acquaintances, and even church members meet each other at an event like this. The website added that such social events serve a good and positive reason.

However, the website also pointed out that sports must still be a matter of leisure and entertainment. They emphasized that sports must be approached biblically, just like other aspects of life. They quoted what Apostle Paul writes to Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:7 to 8, training himself in godliness, which holds promise for the present and future.

They said that training part of sports could result in a healthy body and mind to create unity.

Sports in Christian Life

In line with this, Michael Kerrigan stated on the Baylor University website that sports, physical workouts, and the recreational program takes part in people’s development because spiritual beings are composed of body and soul.

He also mentioned that sports play a huge role in popular culture internationally. Michael added that they are becoming a new focus for the 21st-century Christian mission. In his written report, he also revealed that athletic games, in the words of Pope John Paul II, can show the marvelous structure of an individual made by God as a spiritual being and the harmony of the body and spirit.
