Mission Hills United Methodist Church attends Thanksgiving forum to support LGBTQIA+ community

Mission Hills United Methodist Church (UMC) attended the "LGBTQIA+ Spiritual Care on Thanksgiving" hosted by the Western Jurisdiction of the UMC on Wednesday, Nov. 23, via Zoom.

The church’s Facebook page noted that God called them to respond to His children who were harmed. 

They added that the discussion was a sanctuary for caring and grieving for all individuals in this community.

Besides, the post mentioned that the discussion was an excellent opportunity to provide spiritual nurturing to those who belong to the community. They opened the discussion to everyone, with or without any religious customs. 

Mission Hills UMC emphasized that the Thanksgiving event was not intended to evangelize. 

Western Jurisdiction of the UMC

According to the Western Jurisdiction of the UMC website, their vision is rooted in the denominational goal of believers, which is to make people like Jesus’ disciples. They explained that they desire to create a shelter for every God’s people. 

Moreover, they want to see people gathering together around one table and reconciling with others. They added that the group intends to witness transformation in the lives of people in this community. 

In addition, they explained that the Western Jurisdiction of the UMC accepts various culture and welcome everyone to join their community. As further mentioned, they are confident that their leaders and methods influence diverse ministry setups. 

More about the Jurisdiction of the UMC

The same website noted that the Western Jurisdiction of the UMC consists of eight westernmost regional conferences of the U.S. They said that the UMC in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, and Hawaii are included in the jurisdiction.

In addition, United Methodist churches in Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and other Pacific regions are part of the group.

Place for Everyone

The United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVM) stated that their volunteers are ordinary workers and professionals. They added that they welcome young and old people to participate in their initiatives. 

The website emphasized that they welcome everyone who wants to show their Christian Love towards others. 

Moreover, the website stressed that tens of thousands of its members are part of yearly short-term missions. They said that their initiatives vary depending on the needs of the community.

UMC conducts efforts to respond to disasters, develop the community, and train pastors, as further revealed on the website. They also support microenterprises, agriculture, and building repair and construction, as noted on the website. 

In addition, they said that the UMC hosts Vacation Bible Schools for children and offers medical or dental services. 

Bringing Good News

On the same website, UMVM noted that they focus on finding suitable opportunities for people. They believe God called all Believers to spread the good news to the marginalized people and mend their broken hearts. 

UMVM said it thinks that God asked them to love others as themselves. They added that these neighbors could be near or far from them worldwide.

They added that regardless of their background, God calls them to be part of a mission.
