The Rancho Bernando Community Presbyterian Church conducts an Anxious For Nothing Class from the book of Max Lucado on May 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m at the church’s Fellowship Center.
The church website announced that the author used Scripture to define how individuals can deal with anxiety, worry, and fear. So they could live filled with hope, peace, and faith.
They added that it would be great to live not being afraid and not being anxious.
The church mentioned the good news that the said way of living could be possible, and the answer is in the word of God.
Finding Calmness in Chaotic World
Being anxious is never surpassed, but there’s a medicine for dealing with it posted on Max Lucado’s website.
Lucado invites his readers to indulge in Philippians 4:6-7, wherein Apostle Paul rebuked the followers of Jesus Christ not to be worried about anything. Philippians 4:6 says that Paul motivates believers to “be anxious for nothing,” which means followers should be concerned.
In support of this, Lucado stated that being worried is unavoidable, but being in a prison of worries is optional. He added that Apostle Paul wanted to address the life of continuous anxiety. He said that people should not let anything in life give them a deep feeling of fear.
Anxiety: Number One Mental Health Issue
According to the said website, Americans are very familiar with living in eternal anxiety. Lucado noted that one research program pointed out that the number one mental health issue among women is stress-related problems and is second only to alcohol and drug abuse among men.
The research shows that pressure-related problems cost the nation $300 billion in medications and unproductivity every year. The use of sedative drugs like Xanax and Valium increased rapidly in the last 15 years. They stated that even students are experiencing the said problem.
Another report from a psychologist mentioned the total number of psychiatric patients in the early 1950s had the same level of anxiety with high school students today.
Medicine for Anxiety
Lucado emphasized that the reports on anxiety are enough to make people worried. However, he said that there’s a medicine for it. The Scripture from Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be worried about anything, but in every circumstance, by prayer and petition, pray your request to God with thanksgiving. And the peace from Him, which surpass all understanding, will protect your hearts and minds in Jesus Christ.”
According to Amazon, the author mentioned that this passage was the most highlighted part of any book. He added that with God’s help, individuals could learn to deal with the calamities of life. They would learn to see bad news through the eyes of His power with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
People could also discern the schemes of Satan and tell themselves the truth, Lucado added. Other people could see their gentleness. The author highlighted that anxiety is a part of life, but it does not have to control someone’s life.
