A team from Christ United Presbyterian Church leads worship at the San Diego Rescue Mission every quarter. Some members join the Rescue Mission’s mentorship program.
According to the church’s website, the said organization is designed to deal with the needs of individuals, even children, who suffer from homelessness. They share the Gospel of Salvation and give holistic care for rehabilitation and healing.
Committed to Solving SD’s #1 Issue
Every night, thousands of individuals, including children, in San Diego County don’t have a place to call home, the San Diego Rescue Mission website reported. Some of the reasons why they suffer from not having homes could be surprising to some people.
The reasons include losing jobs or loved ones and the increase in house rents. Some of them choose to stay on the streets because of their health conditions or to battle addictions. Lastly, some are homeless because they are having difficulties meeting the needs of their children as single parents.
Call to Help Neighbors
In response to this, the San Diego Rescue Mission believed that they were called to end homelessness in San Diego County. They said that since 1955, their team has been giving out shelter, clothing, education, and job-skills training. They provide these for men, women, and single parents with children suffering from homelessness.
The said organization serves in different areas in San Diego to save the lives of individuals suffering from not having homes and abuse. They also help those who experience poverty or addiction. They conduct their program through faith-based emergency services and residential rehabilitation programs. Besides, they have children’s services, hunger-relief efforts, and community outreach.
Shelter For Women,Children
According to the organization’s website, more than 80% of homeless women with children suffer from domestic violence and family conflict. The website stated their women’s emergency shelter, Nueva Vida Haven (NVH), is working on their front line. They also help in assisting their city’s most helpless population.
Moreover, NVH gives a safe place to sleep, as well as hot meals, and clothing. They also provide hygiene products and allow these people to take a shower every night. They added that while people in San Diego sleep, the organization helps as many as 60 women and children each night.
They said they offer case management to each person in their specific situation. The group assists them in determining the best means to achieve their individual goals. The group stated that most of the time, these courses of action could fit into their long-term recovery program for women and children.
Together, We Are Stronger
“Together, we are stronger. Together, we can make a change. Together, we can change the state of homelessness in San Diego," the website stated.
San Diego Rescue Mission posted their generous partners on their website. They stated that their collaborations come from a wide range of backgrounds, such as businesses, faith-based organizations, and more.
The organization also works with churches to help them discover practical ways to live and love like Jesus. They said churches could do this by bringing a lasting transformation in the lives of the vulnerable people in their community.
