The CNN Travel website explained that “advent” came from the Latin “adventus,” which means visit or arrival. They noted that Advent is the start of the spiritual year for churches and will have four Sundays before Christmas Day.

As further mentioned, advent was the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ here on earth about 2,000 years ago. They added that it also means preparation and anticipation for His return.

In addition, they revealed that last year, advent began on Sunday, Nov. 28. They stated that they have various spiritual themes each Sunday.

They involve the ceremonial lighting of an Advent candle as they look forward to the birthday of Jesus Christ, as mentioned on the website.

The website emphasized various traditions for celebrating Advent from place to place.
