Renew San Diego invited its congregation to take a moment of reflection and refreshment on the Day of Rest and Play on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Mission Bay.

The church announced the event will have two sessions. Participants would learn how to have a connection with God, as noted on the website. They would also tackle how they could care for their souls.

In addition, the second session would talk about how members could use spiritual rhythms in their everyday lives, as the website added. The church mentioned that there would be a bonfire with s’mores while having dinner.

They suggested that those interested could donate $15 per head, which covers the sessions, lunch, and dinner.

Renew San Diego announced that there would be games such as corn hole and stand-up paddle boarding. Members could enjoy playing beach games such as volleyball. The church emphasized that it would be a great time to enjoy and take a rest.

Church for Others

Pastor Matt Nault revealed on the church’s Youtube video that he spent several months asking people around their neighborhood about the kind of church they need. He added that from all those opinions, Renew San Diego was developed.

As further explained, he did this survey before the church had its first gathering. Nault stressed that they are working with organizations and neighbors to help the vulnerable people in their community.

In the video, he noted that they partner with the Uptown Community Services and host fellowship every first Saturday of the month. According to Nault, they give out free BBQs and conduct live music.

He added that through these programs, they could bring their members and neighborhood together. People develop friendships as time pass by, he stated.

Meanwhile, Pastor Nault mentioned they are finding ways to partner with other groups to help their community, particularly the vulnerable people. He said that they are collaborating with the Foodbank.

Another vital point that Nault emphasized is that the church is also helping refugees across the borders. As further explained, Tijuana, Mexico, is only 15 minutes from Renew San Diego Church, so they also work with other organizations.

Nault stated, "Our Philosophy of Partnership is not that we are the Americans; we have so much to give but rather a lot to give and receive.”

He stressed that they want to grow as a church not just for themselves but for others.

Having Rest

The Integris Health website revealed that nearly 33 percent of individuals in America are reported to feel extreme stress. Besides, more than 73 percent of the report noted that stress affects mental health.

As further explained, rest is crucial for a healthier mental condition. The website said it improves the focus and memory of a person. Rest could also provide a more beneficial immune system, as posted on the website.

In addition, they noted that rest could lessen pressure and improve people's feelings. They could also have a better metabolism, as the website added.
