Nearly 140 young adults aged 18 to 39 are expected to attend the Young Adult Retreat from Friday to Sunday, Sept. 16 to Sept. 18, at Whispering Winds Catholic Camp and Conference Center, Cuyamaca Mountains.

The Southern Cross website revealed that the team for this year’s retreat is “Verso l'alto,” which means “to the heights” in Italian. The report mentioned that the event would start on Friday night and end early Sunday afternoon.

The associate director of the diocesan Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Pamela Poe, stressed that it was not only for enjoyment. But the young adults needed the three-day event.

She said, “They need that time away.”

Poe added that the retreat is an excellent opportunity for young adults to escape the “busy and noisy” environment. She mentioned that they could focus on praying and building a community for the weekend.

Retreat’s Special Feature

The director of the Office of the Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Maricuz Flores, said each year is a new experience. As further explained, they have different speakers. She said their new ideas could inspire the participants’ lives.

According to the news website, one of the new highlights of this year’s retreat is the particular track for bilingual members. Flores stated that the new way is a great chance to fill the gaps between the English and Spanish-speaking young people’s communities.

Besides, the organizers ensured they would have local liturgical musicians instead of hiring them from outside the country. They said they have been getting their musicians from outside San Diego recently.

The news website said the local young people would provide praise-and-worship music for the Abide Worship Nights.

The website posted that their educational method is focused on human and spiritual growth. The website added that participants work in groups to enrich their prayer lives.
