Sonrise Church partners with the Santee Food Bank to support its mission of helping people in the city who are short on food.
The church's website noted that as a church, it is accountable for connecting to its local community by dealing with their needs. They added that the church should share the Good News with their neighborhood.
Community Partner
According to the Santee Food Bank website, they have worked in the community since 1983. The organization revealed that they are entirely independent. They added that they collaborate with local groups to provide for the needs of the city’s residents.
As further posted on its website, the organization serves over 400 hundred families and elders living in Santee City monthly. They also mentioned that they offer “temporary food assistance.”
Meanwhile, the Santee Food Bank highlighted that their 25 to 30 primary volunteers spend about 16,000 hours a year helping to fulfill their mission. As revealed on its website, the organization never paid any of its volunteers. It is all voluntary initiatives, as Santee Food Bank stated.
According to the same website, all their financial aid goes to their mission. The group noted that their goal is to lessen food scarcity within the city.
Besides, the Santee Food Bank emphasizes on its homepage that they are “neighbors helping neighbors.” They noted that they are dedicated to ensuring that no one in their community suffers from hunger.
Food Bank Welcomes Volunteers
The “Volunteer” section mentioned that Santee Food Bank is open to anyone interested in participating in their initiatives. They welcome those 16 years old and older who can stand or walk for two to four hours.
As added to the website, the Food Bank volunteers need to sort donations and fill the bags with food. The organization asks staff to put food in their clients' trunks. Volunteers are also in charge of assisting with other needs. The Food Bank also requests their help in cleaning.
Those interested must complete the volunteer agreement posted on the same website.
Poverty Status in Santee City
According to the Data USA website, about four thousand individuals out of more than 50 thousand people are below the poverty level in Santee. They added that the most significant demographic in poverty is women ages 25 to 40. It is followed by men from 18 to 24 years old.
More importantly, the survey revealed that white people are the most common racial and ethnic group living below the poverty line in Santee. They noted that Hispanic and black individuals followed it.
The same website said the Census Bureau mentioned that if a family’s average earnings are less than the threshold, they are categorized as people living in poverty. The Census Bureau noted that they used a group of different income thresholds to classify those among the city's poor people.
In line with this, Data USA also stated that the employment rate in Santee decreased from 2018 to 2019. They added that the most popular occupation groups are office and administrative jobs and sales and related jobs. Besides, thousands of Santee residents also work in the management field.
