St. Gregory the Great Parish in Scripps Ranch honored healthworkers during a mass on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The Southern Cross website reported that Cardinal Robert McElroy presided over the mass for medical practitioners. Some of those who attended were physicians, nurses, pharmacists, etc. The report also posted that they were with their families and friends during the mass.

Besides, the website stressed that some attendees were in their white lab coats as a symbol of their profession.

Good Samaritans

According to McElroy, workers in the medical field were “Good Samaritans” amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. The Cardinal acknowledge their skills for becoming successful in helping patients recover and enjoy their health conditions.

More importantly. McElroy appreciated their initiatives to demonstrate what it means to become Good Samaritans. As further explained, these medical practitioners did not think of themselves but prioritized those lying by the side of the street, afraid and alone.

The website said that these individuals in this field are willing to sacrifice themselves for those who need their help.

In addition, during the reading of the Gospel, they reminded parishioners about the well-known parable of the Good Samaritan. This man helped and cared for a wounded victim who was left at the side of the road.

However, in the story, some prominent community members ignored the wounded victim, as added on the website.

Cardinal McElroy stated that he presumed the wounded man was not wounded but all part of the trap set by robbers. He explained that it was a dangerous place. But the Good Samaritan took the risk and helped the man.

Critical Role During Pandemic

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)website posted the speech of Stephen Hahn, the Commissioner of the FDA, last Aug. 2020. In his remarks, Hahn acknowledged and thanked all the physicians and healthcare professionals for their hard work.

More importantly, he recognized their thoughtfulness and dedication during the challenging moments in dealing with the chronic disease.

Hahn also emphasized that those working in the medical field were the emerging heroes of this crisis. They have taken the risk of their health to help their patients.

“The nation is indebted to you,” Hahn stated for all healthcare workers.

In his speech, he noted that he understood that it is difficult to find answers and still has a lot to learn about the Covid-19 virus. But he mentioned that their focus as healthcare professionals and scientists is also to stop the spread of the virus as they look for other safe medication.

Real-time Respond

As stated in his remarks, Hahn’s team at the FDA and those healthcare workers have to deal with the challenges in real-time. He explained that the FDA needs to support the development of safe and effective medical responses.

He noted that they needed to secure that their front-liners, the healthcare workers, had and will continue to acquire the necessary protective equipment.

Hahn also said that FDA scientists have been giving crucial regulatory advice, guidance, and technical support to enhance the development of tests, treatments, and vaccines.
