The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego holds the 2022 Annual Catholic appeal with the theme “Living Our Mission.”
On the church’s website, Most Reverend Robert McElroy, Bishop of San Diego and Imperial Counties, stated that as they started in 2022, they would also reaffirm their commitment to living their baptism vows. He added that the said appeal would help the formation and care of priests who spend their lives with God. Their request would also support the service and love for their brothers and sisters in Christ.
Appeal to Help
Meanwhile, McElroy also noted that the said appeal would help their Catholic schools and faith formation events. These programs give hope and faith to their young individuals and lead them to pronounce the Good News of Jesus. They also mentioned that through this movement, they would be able to help their Office for Family Life and Spirituality. The focus of the said office is to strengthen the family at this moment in history.
The Bishop also highlighted that the donations through this program would support Catholic Charities so they could continue their exemplary service to the less fortunate brothers and sisters. Also, to help those who have experienced enormous social and economic crises over the past year.
Besides, by helping with the said appeal, McElroy noted that they would be able to spread hope to the youth, families, and seniors. Also, they could help their parish communities and live out their mission worldwide.
The Bishop also stated in his letter that he urged congregants to consider prayerfully helping this fantastic work of God.
Beneficiaries of Appeal
In the church’s brochure, they highlighted some of the beneficiaries of the Annual Catholic Appeal. One of which is the Catholic Schools based in Parish and diocesan. The staff is assisted in their development, enrollment, and efforts. Through the said appeal, they would be able to help with the mission development initiatives as they work hard to provide affordable and accessible education to every child and family. They help regardless of the children’s background, community, family income, or culture.
Moreover, Annual Catholic Appeal also gives financial aid for evangelism and catechetical formation in some ministries such as Diocesan Institute, Evangelization, and Catechesis. The brochure also mentioned that they help with family life and spirituality, life, peace, and justice.
The church added that these diocesan ministries hold their training and conferences in a spiritual, catechetical, theological, and leadership formation.
Following Jesus, who went down to serve others, the appeal also helped the Catholic Charities in its efforts to endorse the dignity of individuals and its promise to the Judeo Christion vision. The brochure stated that the agency supports nearly 300,000 individuals every year through its vast network of events and services.
Lastly, with the said appeal, the church would be able to support Priestly Formation, the pastoral care for active and retired priests. Also, they helped in the preparation and ongoing event of Permanent Deacons. The brochure added that there are 16 seminarians and 68 retired priests within the diocese.
