Trinity Presbyterian Church encouraged its congregation to attend the discussion about the root cause of poverty led by Dr. Brian Fikkert, the author of When Helping Hurts, on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Redeemer Church.
The church’s Facebook page posted that this is part of Hope for San Diego’s efforts to make people aware of the proven ways to help individuals. They added that this event is an excellent way to learn more about how they could serve effectively.
When Helping Hurts
According to Amazon’s website, the book When Helping Hurts focuses on North America and significant parts of the world. They explained that “When Helping the Hurts” tested the approach for lessening cases of poverty and analyzing the idea for a sustainable transformation.
They emphasized that the book could enlighten people to view the dignity of every person. They added that this paperback could strengthen the poor.
As further explained, people could also realize that everyone has particular needs. They said that book would talk about how God in the Gospel could restore everything by himself.
In addition, the Amazon website stressed that poverty is not just simply not having enough resources. In the book, the author noted that it takes more than donations and materials to solve the issue.

Moreover, he wrote a lot of articles in academic and famous journals. They said that he co-authored five books. Fikkert was also a teacher at the University of Maryland before working at Covenant College, as the website added.

Another reference written by Fikkert and Steve Corbett is When Helping Hurts: The Small Group Experience. According to another Amazon section, this book is suitable material for small groups and Sunday school lectures.
They added that non-profit projects could also use this book. It also has an online video to discuss alleviating poverty, as further explained on the website.
