Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church to serve as venue for San Francisco Chamber Orchestra's performance

On Sunday, March 19, Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church at Mill Valley will witness the performance of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra.

For the performance, the orchestra, along with students from ELM school in San Rafael, will do a presentation of "The Mix of the Culturas," in addition to performing other classical and Latin pieces.

Mix of the Culturas

The partnership between the ELM school in San Rafael and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra has been a successful one, marked by two memorable Summer Chamber Music Camp collaborations.

It continues with an upcoming performance together.

According to Patch, one of the featured pieces is “Mix of the Culturas,” a composition by Giancarlo Castro D'Adonna.

The ELM school has been providing free music education to youth in the San Rafael area.

The side-by-side performance is a culmination of their hard work, and it promises to be an exciting evening of music that celebrates the unique talents of both groups.

San Francisco Chamber Orchestra

The San Francisco Chamber Orchestra is made up of the most talented musicians in the Bay Area and operates as a close-knit ensemble.

They strive to combine excellence and accessibility by offering a full season of more than 36 performances that are free of charge to audiences of all ages and backgrounds throughout the Bay Area.

Their repertoire includes classical, contemporary, and commissioned works.

The orchestra's Main Stage Concerts take place in major venues in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Palo Alto and showcase their full ensemble of up to 36 players, along with world-class soloists.

The programs are designed to appeal to both seasoned concertgoers and newcomers to classical music.

Additionally, interactive musical demonstrations are incorporated into the concerts to deepen the audience's knowledge and enhance their experience of the music.

The San Francisco Chamber Orchestra is committed to educating the next generation of music enthusiasts.

They offer 45-minute Family Concerts and 20-minute Very First Concerts in various locations such as churches, community centers, and libraries in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, San Mateo, and Burlingame.

The concerts aim to introduce classical music to young audiences and foster a love of music.

Benjamin Simon has been the music director of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra for the past 20 seasons.

He is a highly experienced violist who has performed for audiences all over the world.

Simon has played with various acclaimed groups, including the Naumburg Award-winning New World String Quartet, the Stanford String Quartet, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonic Orchestras.

Moreover, Simon, who is originally from San Francisco, began studying conducting in the Bay Area under Denis DeCouteau.

He continued his studies at Yale College and the Juilliard School with Otto Werner Mueller, as well as at the Aspen Music Festival with Dennis Russell Davies.

Simon has conducted orchestras and contemporary ensembles in the United States and Europe, and he has also conducted performances for the theater and soundtracks for major motion pictures.

He has taught at various institutions, such as Harvard and Stanford Universities, and he has been a music faculty member at UC Berkeley since 1998.

In 1988, Simon became a member of the Naumburg-Award-winning New World String Quartet, where he played over eighty concerts each year at major venues and summer festivals in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
