The Druid Hills Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, held a full worship service to celebrate World Communion Day on Sunday, Oct. 3.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Oct. 2, the Druid Hills Presbyterian Church shared a preview of Pastor Shelli Latham on the World Communion Sunday.

Latham, in a statement, said an entire worship service was held in the sanctuary and an online platform for the World Communion Day celebration.

The pastor said the church remembers the sister congregations from east, west, north, and south that God unites all people at the table during the Lord's Supper.

In this year's worship, the church had an "Afro Caribbean feel" as it welcomed the Pan People Steelband, Latham said in a statement posted on its website.

Latham also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Brian Adams, who dedicated time and music to the church's service last week.

According to the Druid Hills Presbyterian pastor, people who attended the worship were given sweet treats on the sanctuary's lawn, which Just Bakery provided.

Meanwhile, Latham shared a passage from Luke 14:7-14, which invites the people to re-imagine dinner parties in witnessing Jesus turn the conventional dinner party on its head.

The pastor added that World Communion Day is one of her favorites celebratory services with the church members.

Pastor Latham

According to the Druid Hills Presbyterian Church's website, Latham was called to Druid Hills Presbyterian Church in September 2014.

The church shared that Reverend Latham was ordained in the Northeast Georgia Presbytery on Aug. 7, 2005.

In 1996, she received a B.A. in English from Converse College Magna Cum Laude. Columbia Theological Seminary awarded her an M.DIV. in 2005, it added.

According to the church, Latham is passionate about worship, and she strives to make it multi-sensory and entertaining for the entire congregation.

The pastor also shares an enthusiasm for assisting God's most vulnerable children and feels called to advocate, notably the Druid Hills Presbyterian.

The church bared that Latham's first call was to Youth Ministry, and she comes to Druid Hills Presbyterian Church after serving as the Keynote Speaker at the Montreat Youth Conference three times, in 2010 and 2012.

She is passionate about involving teenagers and children in church activities, and she has a soft place for intergenerational ministry, the church added.

Latham enjoys pounding the pavement in her running shoes, hammering things in her work-in-progress home, watching old episodes of West Wing, and planning trips when she is not at the church building, the Druid Hills Presbyterian said.

Ministries' Food Pantry

The Druid Hills Presbyterian Church has also called for volunteers to join Intown Collaborative Ministries' food pantry.

The Druid Hills Presbyterian Church announced the food pantry collaboration on a Facebook post on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

The church invited those available volunteers to help out at the food pantry set up by the Intown Collaborative Ministries.

According to the organization's website, the Intown Collaborative Ministries are a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing and reversing homelessness and hunger in Intown, Atlanta, Georgia.
