Emory Presbyterian Church holds special blessing service for pets

The Emory Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, had a special blessing service for animals on Sunday, Sept. 26.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the Emory Presbyterian Church said the special blessing for the animal's service was held at their outdoor sanctuary at 11 a.m.

The Emory Presbyterian Church also advised the worshippers to bring their beloved pets during the Sunday creation-themed service.

The church also provided pet treats and water for the animals present during the service, the Emory Presbyterian wrote on its Facebook post.

Apart from the Emory Presbyterian, the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta also held a special blessing for the animals in the sanctuary on Sunday, Oct. 3, according to an earlier report from the Crossmap.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Sept. 18, the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, said it would conduct a blessing of the animals.

Meanwhile, the Peachtree Road United Methodist has also encouraged the public to bring their "furry, feathered, and finned friends" for a special blessing in the sanctuary on Oct. 3 at 5 p.m.

Patron of Animals

The feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, was also celebrated on Sunday, Oct. 3.

According to the Learn Religions website, Assisi is the patron saint of animals, merchants, and ecology.

The biblical website stated that the saint abandoned a life of luxury after reportedly heard the voice of God, who commanded him to rebuild the Christian church and live in poverty.

He also performed miracles in poor and sick people, as well as in animals, according to the website.

The Learn Religions also bared that Assisi saw animals as his brothers and sisters and prayed to God to work through him to help them.

It was also revealed that some birds gathered while he spoke and listened to him, according to the religious website.

According to the website, the saint began preaching to them about the ways that God had blessed them.

When Assisi lived in the province of Perugia, a certain wolf was roaming and attacking people and other animals. Until he met the wolf and tried to tame it, the religious website stated.

Assisi prayed and moved toward the wolf, and in return, the wolf obeyed his commands and closed his mouth while lying at the saint's feet, the website explained.

The saint also ordered the people in the community to feed the wolf regularly, and it never injured or harmed other person or animal, the religious website said.

World Animal Day

World Animal Day was also celebrated on Monday, Oct. 4, to raise the status of animals to improve their welfare standards across the world, according to the World Animal Day organization United Kingdom's website.

The organization said World Animal Day united the animal welfare movement and mobilizing it into a global drive to make the world a better place for all the animals.

It was celebrated in different ways in every country, the animal day organization shared.

The animal organization underscored that increased awareness and education create a world where animals are recognized and cared for their welfare.
