Church’s History

The Woodruff Arts Center is right next to the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, which was founded in 1848, according to the church's website. It is located at the junction of Peachtree and 16th Streets.

The church said it is an urban church renowned for being a leader in worship, spiritual growth, service, and fostering ties with the local community, and the arts.

First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta said it has welcomed many families that have contributed to the development of this city, and it has celebrated some significant anniversaries.

As they prepare for the 175th Anniversary in 2023, First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta keeps developing these traditions, it added.

First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta noted that among its many neighborhood outreach programs, it has a 35-year history of giving breakfast to 250 homeless individuals every Sunday and offering up to 12 women safe housing and support through the campus' Women's Transformation Center.

The church said the WSB radio station has been broadcasting the world's oldest continuously running religious radio program since 1922.

Broadcast, Surroundings

The first church in Atlanta to broadcast services live on television was First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, and the broadcast is still going strong today, according to the church.

They can learn more about the broadcast's past and contribute to its 100th-anniversary celebration through the video posted on its website.

The Atlanta to broadcast services live on television claimed to have strong relationships with the area's cultural organizations, including the Alliance Theater, the High Museum of Art, the Museum of Design Atlanta, the Atlanta Symphony, the Atlanta Opera, and others.

The church routinely hosts events and concerts thanks to these partnerships.

Plans and ideas for the installation of stained glass windows were created by Pastor Dr. Lyons, according to the church.

At least 10 windows that encircle the sanctuary's floor, according to the church, reflect the biblical story from Abraham to the apostles' efforts to spread Christianity after Christ's death and resurrection.

There are a total of twenty windows spread across four places. Nine Willet windows, four D'Ascenzo windows, and seven Tiffany windows are present, it continued.

By God's grace, a group of modest Christ-followers decided to live by love, pursue constant change, and enable everyone to serve as servant leaders in Atlanta and all around the world, according to the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.
