Church’s Traditions

According to the church's website, First Presbyterian Church continues to build on these traditions as they approach its 175th Anniversary in 2023.

The church said the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta was included in the National Register of Historic Places on May 29, 2020.

The first presbyterian church noted that among its many neighborhood outreach programs, it has a 35-year history of offering breakfast to 250 homeless individuals each Sunday and housing and support for up to 12 women through its Women's Transformation Center on campus.

According to the church, the world's oldest continually transmitted religious radio program has been heard on WSB since 1922.

First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta’s website, which is located close to the Woodruff Arts Center at the junction of Peachtree and 16th Streets, was founded in 1848.

The church's website said the urban church was famous for being a pioneer in worship, spiritual growth, service, developing links within the community, and the arts.

According to the church, it has celebrated a number of important anniversaries and is made up of numerous families that have helped this community grow.

First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta was the first place of worship to broadcast services live on television, and the transmission is still going strong today.

Church’s Biblical Images

According to the church, biblical scenes from Abraham to the apostles' efforts to spread Christianity after Christ's death and resurrection can be viewed on the windows around the sanctuary.

The church claimed that Tiffany designed the first six windows, while D'Ascenzo built the latter four.

There are four locations with a total of 20 windows. Four D'Ascenzo windows, seven Tiffany windows, and nine Willet windows were among the additional items.

Around 12 colossal windows line the chapel's interior. According to the church, the sanctuary's floor is surrounded by ten windows, five on each side.

The church reported that the complete sanctuary was dedicated in 1919.

The architect supposedly advocated building multiple huge windows "for light and ventilation" at the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.

According to the church, Dr. Lyons, the pastor, created a strategy and some suggestions for placing stained glass windows.

The church said Tiffany made the first six windows and D'Ascenzo built the latter four.
