‘Fat Tuesday’

On Tuesday, March 1, the Atlanta First United Methodist Church will host a "Fat Tuesday: Pancakes, Waffles, and Prayer."

The event is known as "Shrove Tuesday," the day before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, according to a Facebook post from Atlanta First United Methodist Church.

It is customarily a day of prayer and celebration, with eating before the fasts begin, according to the church. There are various ways to join Atlanta First United Methodist Church in celebrating this year.

For in-person services, people can meet Jay and Jeremy Burns-Horton at their house starting at 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., for people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and have had their immunity strengthened, according to the Atlanta First United Methodist Church.

It was followed by prayer and bacon and waffles. Inside and exterior seating will be available, with a maximum capacity of 20 people. They will engage in focused prayer from 6:30 to 7 p.m. first using Zoom and then fellowshipping together

Those who are uncomfortable or unable to attend in person may join in intentional prayer beginning at 6:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.

They can also use Zoom to call the engagement team, and they will send you a Waffle House gift card and party pack to celebrate from wherever they are.

In both cases, registration is required. Go to atlantafirstumc.org/engage to get started.

Make a note of whether they'll be participating virtually and throwing their own Waffle House party at home, or if they'll be attending the Burns-at-party Horton's at their house.

The registration deadline is Monday, February 21. Inquiries should be directed to engage@atlantafirstumc.org.
